Poem of the Children

  THE ROAD NOT TAKEN

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Nature's Healthy Liver

Posted by c@r3yKanG On 2:17 AM 1 comment

How well do you know your liver?
Unknown to many, the liver is one of the key organs in the body that performs many vital functions.

  • An important protective organ, removing bacteria and foreign materials from the blood as it passes through the liver.

  • Acts as a detoxifying agent for many medications and toxins, produces important blood proteins and metabolises carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

  • Produces important blood proteins and other molecules.

  • Stores iron, certain vitamins and eliminates old haemoglobin.

  • Produces bile, a key substance that digests fats and helps in absorption of fat-soluble vitamins i.e. A, D, E and K.
The liver is the only organ that regenerates itself. However, it is still susceptible to damage or diseases caused by negative environmental and lifestyle factors such as:

  • Viral infections

  • Excessive alcohol intake

  • Environmental toxins

  • Certain medications
Does your liver need extra attention?
People who should be especially careful about their liver health include those who:

  • Eat fatty food and have a generally poor diet

  • Have poor digestive function

  • Need to lower their cholesterol levels

  • Use oral contraceptives, Hormone Replacement Therapy or other hormonal drugs

  • Drink alcohol on regular basis

  • Are exposed to pesticides, solvents or other environmental pollutants

  • Are trying to reduce body fat
The second largest organ in the body - weighing almost the same as a football - the liver is ironically the least cared for and mostly go unnoticed until something went wrong. While there may be symptoms, without a medical check-up, most of us won't know if our livers are functioning properly. The possible signs and symptoms of a poorly functioning liver include:

  • Hepatitis A, B and C

  • Cirrhosis or scarring of the liver, often resulting from excessive alcohol intake

  • Skin pigmentation

  • Eczema

  • Dark circles under eyes

  • Poor gall bladder function

  • Constipation

  • Fat intolerance

  • Itchy skin

  • Feeling nauseas

    Equation Solution

Posted by c@r3yKanG On 5:33 AM 1 comment

    EQUATION

    Definition
An equation is a statement that expresses the equality of two mathematical expressions. An equation has an equal sign, a right side expression and a left side expression.

    Examples of equations

    3x + 3 = 2x + 4 : the left side of the equation is the expression 3x + 3 and the right side is 2x + 4.

    2x + 3y = 2 - 2x : equation in two variables x and y.

    Solutions of an Equation
    If we substitute x by -3 in the equation 2x + 8 = -2x - 4, we obtain

    left side: 2x + 8 = 2(-3) + 8 = -6 + 8 = 2

    right side: -2x - 4 = -2(-3) - 4 = 6 - 4 = 2

Since a substitution of x = - 3 in the equation gives a true statement 2 = 2, we call -3 the solution or root of the given equation 2x + 8 = -2x - 4. The set of all solutions of an equation is called the solution set of the equation.

To solve an equation is to find all its solutions.
    Equivalent Equations
Equations are equivalent if they have exactly the same solutions.

The following equations are equivalent since they have the same solution x = 0.

    -3x + 2 = x + 2

    -3x = x

    x = 0
    Properties of Equality
1 - Addition Property of Equality

If we add the same number (or mathematical expression) to both sides of an equation, we do not change the solution set of the equation.

    If A = B then A + C = B + C

    Example

    The equation 2x + 3 = 5

    and the equation 2x + 3 + (-3) = 5 + (-3) have the same solution x = 1.

2 - Multiplication Property of Equality

If we mutliply both sides of an equation by the same number (or mathematical expression), we do not change the solution set of the equation.

    If A = B then C * A = C * B , with C not equal to zero.

    Example

    The equation x / 2 = 4

    and the equation 2 * (x / 2) = 2 * 4 have the same solution x = 8.

    Origami for Kids to Make

Posted by c@r3yKanG On 3:16 AM 1 comment

For grownups, some of our fondest memories revolve around making origami as kids. Some of that simpler time can be captured by a little paper folding. Folding origami is also a great way for parents to spend quality time with kids without the need for any high tech gadget.
Folding origami gives parents a chance to sit down with kids and interact while creating something, and all without the noise of video games or tv programming.
Origami can also be taught in school as part of the curriculum.
Transforming a piece of plain paper into something else is an experience both adults and children can truly appreciate.
And best of all, they will remember the joy of folding origami as a kid even when they're adults. I know I do!
The following origami designs are great for kids and beginners. Some are simple enough that young ones can make these with little or no help from grownups while others may require some assistance.
And if they've outgrown these origami for kids, then try something more challenging. There's plenty of more difficult origami on this site as well.

We hope that you enjoy these origami for kids.  Let's start folding!

    Origami Truck
    Step 1: Start with a 6 in x 6 in (15cm x 15cm) square origami paper, color side down.

Origami Truck Step 2: Fold in half. Crease well and unfold.

Origami Truck Step 4: Divide the bottom half of the paper into thirds. Fold 1/3 of the paper up. It doesn't have to be precise so just approximate it.

Origami Truck Step 5: Make 2 folds at an angle as indicated by the dotted line below.

Origami Truck Step 7: Flip paper over.
    origami-truck-step-7

Origami Truck Step 8: Fold down about 2/3 from the middle crease as indicated by the dotte line below. Again, it does not have to be precise so just eyeball it.

    origami-truck-step-8

Origami Truck Step 9: Now fold the top flap up on the left side.
    origami-truck-step-9

    origami-truck-step-9

Origami Truck Step 10: Now fold the entire left side as indicated by the dotted line.
